Crafting Your Ideal Home Office: Enhance Productivity & Comfort

Working from home? When you’re on a remote or hybrid contract, it’s so important to be comfortable no matter where you’re set up. From the spare bedroom to the kitchen table, many workers choose to finish their tasks in informal spots round the house.

Only 4% of CEOs insist on bringing workers back to the office full-time, so it’s the best time to keep your productivity strong and achieve great things at home.

To work from home successfully, you need a space in which you can focus – but also one that’s uniquely yours too. No matter your specialty, we’ve outlined five ways to perfect your home office in this guide.

How to Perfect Your Home Office

1. Get the Lighting Right

In a home office, lighting is particularly important. Whether you take a lot of video calls or work long hours – or maybe even both – you can’t expect to complete your best work without the right environment.

When it comes to your video call setup, our tip is to have a warm white lamp facing you. Avoid sitting directly in front of a window, as this can trigger overexposure or cast strange and distracting shadows.

2. Keep Things Organized

Having a tidy and organized space creates a calmer environment to work in, helping to boost your motivation and concentration.

Try to compartmentalize your storage and keep things in their own place, especially if you keep devices powered by standard batteries in your setup. Many workers choose translucent plastic boxes to help see their belongings, but you could use a color-coded system or labels instead.

No matter which method you choose, getting organized is one of the first steps towards a better work-life balance at home.

3. Make it Personal

Personalization is key if you want to create a home office space that works for you. Since you’re bound to be spending a lot of time in your home office, you should be able to enjoy it. If you’ve got enough desk space, why not add photos, memorabilia, or posters of your favorite TV shows and movies?

Recent studies suggest that a staggering 98% of employees want to work remotely at least sometimes. You can make working from home your superpower by making your setup suited to your tastes, needs, and preferences.

4. Create a Sense of Separation

From the spare bedroom to the kitchen table, many workers choose to finish their tasks in informal spots round the house. However, you’ll only harness your productivity by working in a space that’s separate from your living or dining areas.

Your office should be a space for focus and concentration. Don’t be tempted to work from the couch or stay in bed all day with your computer. Keep focused and aim for your own desk space, at least. If you’ve got the space, a separate office room is ideal.

5. Add Some Greenery

Finally, try not to forget that no matter how much you like your home office, spending too much time indoors could be detrimental to your health and wellbeing.

While it might not be a replacement for a lengthy lunchtime stroll or even some time spent in the yard, adding plants to your office could help in the meantime.

Greenery – whether you choose succulent plants or something more floral – is proven to boost air quality in your home and help improve focus too. It’s the perfect ingredient for an improved home office space.
